POSKART PROJEKT “ART ON POSKART”

In this project, RURU Gallery invites Ika Vantiani as a curator and also to initiate an art project about works of visual art in the form of a postcard with the specific theme of “ART ON POSTKART.” This projects invites artists to make their postcards using the medium of their choice, e.g., collage, paintings, drawings, photographs, “stolen images,” etc. Embracing crazy ideas and creativity that is excessive is welcome as long as the works remain in the form of a postcard. Works can be created as a series or not.

Poskart Project is one of the many events happening at ruangrupa right now. This project invites artists to embrace their creativity in mediums  with which they are familiar, be it photography, painting, drawing, etc. This project differs from its counteracts because it asks the artist to create works adhering to the boundaries of the age-old postcard.

For years a postcard was the sole form of communication between parties. If an individual was on-the-go and unable to write a formal letter, the postcard sufficed. It’s lack of space allowed for quick updates and disclosure of feeling without an envelope or costly postage. Today, the postcard is considered an antique in a world filled with e-mail, twitter, and facebook. These new luxuries should not overshadow a medium that  for years people used to disclose their feelings, happenings, and fears…and all in a 8.5 x 11.5 cm space or the largest in a  19 x 14 cm space..

Today, ruangrupa challenges artists to continue speaking volumes with their artwork, while remaining true to the confinements that the postcard has always posed.
